Hey, Local Shoppers Are Looking for You! Why Are You Hiding Your Business From Them?

Why You Need This On-Page Local SEO Checklist!

This may sound funny coming from the highly caffeinated agency, but for many small businesses focusing solely online is not a good idea! Especially if you have an actual brick-and-mortar location you should not overlook the benefits of on-page local SEO. Many of your potential customers will prefer to patronize a local and convenient business rather than necessarily the cheapest. Our On-Page Local SEO Checklist will provide local business owners with the tools they need to attract new business.

72% of consumers who perform a local search visit a store within 5 miles of their current location. Wordstream

This statistic alone should explain the value of on-page local SEO. As consumers get more sophisticated and demanding they don’t want to waste their valuable time on aimlessly window shopping. Instead they will carefully research their local shopping options, and make a purchasing decision based on that. And this actually works to the advantage of small businesses. Bigger brands may have better prices and more options, but they may not be as convenient as a small local business.

61% of mobile searchers are more likely to contact a local business if they have a mobile-friendly site. Bright Local

On-page local SEO helps search engines identify and rank businesses by their geographical location in relation to a search query. In general on-page local SEO is not overly difficult, but many local business owners tend to overlook it.

By adding information regarding the location of your business the correct way you increase your chances of ranking high in local search results. Studies have shown that most people prefer to do business with a store or location closest to them, so be sure to do on-page local SEO for each store or business location.

The On-Page Local SEO Checklist

The following ten steps will ensure that your website is properly optimized for local search.

1 – Optimize Your Logo

Use your business name and city in logo file names and image alt tags. Be sure to include a specific location if you have more than one.

2 – Website NAPs

Name, address, and local phone number (NAPs) should be prominently placed on your website; we recommend in the footer and on your contact page or section for starters. Caution: There should be no other business NAPs on these pages.

3 – Map + Directions

Add a Google Map with directions to reinforce the idea of where you are. This is very helpful to your customers and clients. If you are in a busy area you may even want to consider adding an image of your location.

4 – Meta Title + Description

Be sure to include your city and region in important meta titles and descriptions.

8 – Voice Search

Expect a lot of mobile consumers to start using this option in 2018. With the increased popularity and availability of voice-activated digital assistants like Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa many consumers prefer this option. Take a look at how you can optimize your content for voice search, and how Google rates voice search results to prepare your strategy.

9 – Present Your Team

Highlight your team on your website using local Schema. Link both to and from their LinkedIn and Google+ profiles and Twitter handles if they have them.

10 – Local Publicity

Organize local events and initiatives through your website to generate press interest. Use Event and Offer Schema where possible.
